Chicago – Always Great to Visit

August 11th, 2013

For this new entry in my travel and photography blog, it was time to get back to one of my favourite cities in the US to visit, Chicago.  This beautiful city on Lake Michigan and home to many skyscrapers, has done an excellent job in planning their waterfront and park systems to make for a people friendly environment.  Tourists and residents alike can enjoy time outdoors walking and taking in the sights, sounds and activities within the city.  As a photographer, Chicago also offers many opportunities for great images to be captured.  Our visit this time was post the Black Hawks winning the Stanley Cup and the city was a-buss with Black Hawk pride and parifinailia

At the north end of downtown, beach life can be enjoyed along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Meanwhile, at the southern end of downtown, you can enjoy spots like the Buckingham or Millennium Fountains.

Navy Pier is a very popular tourist attraction close to the middle of town, jutting out into the lake with it’s entertainment and food / drink offerings for all ages.

Making use of the skyscrapers on hand, the John Hancock Building offers excellent views of the city (including Navy Pier) both day and night. There is a pass that gets you up for both in a 48 hour timeframe and is worth the investment, with fireworks over Navy Pier on Saturday nights.

While in Chicago you must also take in the famous landmarks of The Bean and of course the sign at the Chicago Theatre.

This time in Chicago we also took in the architectural cruise on the Chicago River, which is very informative as well as offering a different view / perspective of the buildings from the river.  This is also something I would recommend for your visit.

And of course, no trip to Chicago would be complete without shopping along Michigan Avenue on the famous Magnificent Mile.  Home to many key stores and tourists, starting at the Chicago River and heading north.

While I have only touched the surface of what Chicago has to offer, I hope this gives you enough (at least from a visual aspect) to wet your travel appetite and you plan to explore this great destination as part of you future travel plans.  There are also great museums, restaurants and the Shedd Aquarium to name a few additional things to take in.

Happy travels and don’t forget to bring your camera to capture those key memories that last a lifetime.
